Probably spoilers



I have had it for a few weeks but didn't watch it until last night... it was... well... boring.

That's not to say that's the worst thing in the world, the BSG mini-series was far more boring.

Here's my biggest complaint: What was the point of BSG? Wasn't it to suggest, at least in part, that the Cylons were more than the machines that men had made? Why then are we fed this ridiculous notion here that all we are can be reproduced by the statistics and notions in our public records?

Pardon me, but that basic concept is...... wait for it................ stupid.

I guess on the good side of it we now know why the Centurians were the ones to come up with the concept of the one God.

I'm not saying this show is fatally flawed... but I am saying that it's in critical condition at this point for me. Not only was it pretty boring, but the chief conceit of the show is so hollow as to actually undermine BSG, something I thought this series couldn't possibly do.

It's not that we're more than our programming, it's that we're less than anyone thought.

If BSG's point was to suggest that what makes a human a human isn't parents, birth, etc... ie suggesting that Cylons were as valid and alive as humans, then why devalue the creation of said Cylon (and devalue humans at the same time) by having it be very little more than the assembly of files?

Does anyone here think that someone's personality, memories, emotions, reactions, and secrets could be contained in their school file? How about your credit card statement? What about every piece of recorded information about you? I think it's laughable... and it wouldn't irk me so much if it weren't the seminal moment for this entire fictional universe. When she created that copy of herself she effectively created the spirit of the Cylon race... and I would've hoped they wouldn't drop the ball so drastically and cop out on the central question by suggesting she just compiled some documents.

Well, it's one thing to presume that men were creating something and then there was a certain spark from God that imbued them with a soul...... it's a far different proposition to suggest that my soul resides in my tax return.

Oh, and it's not news that I analyze things in an extremely careful way. Nitpick suggests I'm searching for things that are wrong... and that's just not what I do. I don't go looking for disappointment, it's just the way I am. The data flows over me and I, much like Leoben, see the patterns in things and thusly see the non-conforming things as blatantly as if they had red flags. I don't seek them out, it's just the way my mind works. I think it was probably the schooling I had as a young kid that focused on listening and reading comprehension combined with logic and history... It's a gift... and a curse

I've been watching and thoroughly enjoying the show thus far... It's building slowly, but I don't mind that, really. I still have objections to how the avatars are made and all that, but taking those tidbits aside, it's a good show so far... I hope Syfy sticks with it long enough.
